Massachusetts!

My family and I at the Cheesecake Factory

A few weekends ago I visited my family in Massachusetts. I hadn’t seen most of them since January, since before I dyed my hair blonde, so it was good to go home and see everyone. I also got to visit with my mom’s penpal from England and her family, who were visiting my folks for about a week and a half.

What did I do while out east? Played beer pong with my brother in my parents’ dining room, posed in front of Boston Harbor, got stuck in a downpour on Newbury Street, ate at the best hibachi place ever, and watched a whole lot of Olympic coverage at night when everyone else went to sleep.

What else did I do for the first time? Got off a plane after I had already boarded, due to the fact that I probably wasn’t going to be able to make my connecting flight in time and getting stranded in Detroit overnight. I chose to spend another night with my family than a night in an unfamiliar city, and flew back to South Bend early the next morning. I arrived back in town at 10 and went to work at 11:30; I don’t even know how I functioned at work that day, honestly.

All in all, I had a good time with my family. I’m hoping to go out and visit more often, but I’m not sure how feasible that will be right away. I do miss New England and I’m happy when I get to go out there.

Vampires and Shakespeare

So, it’s August. Interesting. Where the heck has summer gone? Wasn’t it just June? I’m amazed at how fast time passes. At this time last year I interviewed for a few new jobs and worked on remodeling the living room of a house I owned. Today, I’ve been at my current job for almost a year and I’m living in an apartment by myself. My life today is vastly different from my life a year ago.

Last week, I ventured to a library .8 miles away from my apartment complex and got myself a library card. I haven’t been much of a reader for most of my life, and I want to make up for lost time by reading novels I should have read by now. I’m starting with Pride and Prejudice and I’ll probably read some Shakespeare after I finish. Also, I think I’m the only person in this world who hadn’t really heard of the Twilight series before this weekend (when I saw articles about it ALL OVER the internet) so maybe I’ll read that too. Vampires and Shakespeare. Sounds about right.

Also! Next weekend, I will be visiting my family in Massachusetts! I am very excited to see my family; I haven’t seen them since January when my hair was still dark brown. Family friends from England will also be at my parents’ house when I visit, so I’ll be excited to be around so many people for a weekend. Living by myself is nice in ways, but I know I don’t want to live alone for the rest of my life. I definitely prefer the company of others to being by myself.

While I’m home I hope to meet up with a few of my friends and maybe go to New York City for a day! I also want to hit my favorite restaurants and will probably be going to WEBS with my mother to scope out some yarn. I’m only there from Friday to Monday, so I’m willing to make the most of my trip.

Swan Lake is still blocking away on the floor of my bedroom. I’m going to need to buy a spritzer or something to rewet it, as it took me too long to block it after soaking it. So I predict it will be pinned to my floor for awhile. It did grow in size after being stretched out, so I’m sure it will wrap around me nicely. I just do not think I’m a stole person; I don’t really have an occasion on which to wear it and I don’t think I can pull off the look. I’ll see.

Things are still good. Things are hard sometimes, but life is good. I am happy.
