And now for something completely superficial…

I’ve had short hair for the past three years; I cut it in 2002 after wearing it long and straight. At the time, I thought long hair made me look younger; perhaps that’s just because of the hair colors I had! My hair’s been predominately black since sometime in 1999 with little change; I dyed it bright, bright red at the very end of 1999, dyed it pink in 2001, and kept it burgendy in 2004 and 2005. I’m always striving for a different look, and recently I’ve figured out what to do next with it.

Yes, I’m growing it out both long and in my natural color. I’m interested to see what sort of change this will be for me; I don’t know how much I’ll like my natural color as I haven’t seen it in a very long time! Right now I have about two inches of my natural color showing under the black dye, and my hair’s at an odd growing out stage right now. I figure my hair will be at least longish by next summer, and I’m really looking forward to growing out the ‘bangs’ that were cut into my hair when I cut my hair really short in July. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t done it as my hair would be longer now, but eh. I liked the short hair, but it just didn’t feel like me.

I’m on a kick to make myself look more my age; I tend to wear clothing from high school, even now. I own way too many polyester shirts and sweaters in bright colors, which I like, but I know I need other pieces of clothing to mature my image a bit. I don’t want to completely lose my sense of style (whatever sense I have!), but I do feel the need to look a bit more mature. I’m sick of people telling me “You look too young to be married!” and I’m wondering if there’s a way I can make myself look at least my age instead of someone still in high school. Who knows what I can do to change this?

All I know is that I’d like to look my age. Five years from now I’ll be happy with looking younger, but right now it’s still a burden.
