Apples + friends = good times!
Don’t worry, I am still back. I ran into a few issues with my computer during the week, so I didn’t have much time to post. Now that my computer is more or less stable again, I should really be posting more often!
Last weekend, Scott and I went apple picking up in Michigan with my Nanowrimo writing group friends. Prior to last weekend, I hadn’t ever gone apple picking; I’ve gone strawberry and blueberry picking countless times, but for some reason, I hadn’t ever journeyed to an orchard. I’m very glad we did; seriously, few things are better than traipsing around an orchard with good friends, picking apples from a tree and eating them right there, and enjoying an early autumn day with temperatures in the 80s. (Yeah, it did get a bit hot, but still, I enjoyed myself.) We came home with a good amount of Empire and Jonathan apples, and a gallon of freshly made apple cider. We ate and drank well this past week.
Let me admit something: before last weekend, I hadn’t ever eaten even a crumb of apple pie. Yes, I lived the first 26 years of my life missing out on one of the quintessential American delights, and trust me, I was laughed at by many, many people (mainly my husband) for never even wanting to try it. Well, I remedied this by eating a slice of my friend Josh’s freshly baked pie made from apples from the orchard, and after a moment of bliss, I’ve been inducted into the Apple Pie Lover’s Club. It’s good stuff, really.
This weekend, Scott and I plan on driving around Michigan and stopping at a few wineries. The weather’s been absolutely gorgeous this past week; cool and crisp in the lower 70s with a bit of a chill in the mornings. I saw my breath walking from the parking lot to work the other day! We want to take advantage of the nice weather while it lasts.
I can’t believe it’s nearly October and autumn’s underway.
