My favorite Christmas traditions

Christmas lights in PDX, December 1, 2015

A few years ago, I attempted to write in my blog every day in December, following a set of Christmas-related prompts. I’ve been wanting to do this again, because Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday, but I never found another list of Christmas themed writing prompts I’ve liked.

Until now.

This morning, I came across BlogHer Writing Lab’s December 2015 Prompts. In true Aubrey fashion, I found them the day after they started. I’m really excited to write about a new holiday related subject every day, especially given that this year’s theme is ‘tradition’.

Let’s get started!

What traditions do you look forward to at the end of the year?

I look forward to Christmas trees, of hanging up my handmade beaded ornaments. I look forward to get togethers with friends and family, of singing along to Christmas songs, of burning Balsam Fir candles from Yankee Candle. I enjoy drinking Christmas teas and admiring decorations in stores.

I look forward to walking down the street at night, the sky alight with twinkling lights hanging from the trees. I look forward to the crisp, cold air and the snap of winter, of seeing frost on the trees and a sprinkling of snow on the ground when I wake up. I think of mugs of hot chocolate, of cold noses, of holding hands as the snow falls quietly at night.

I look forward to drinking Christmas beers and always enjoy Anchor’s annual Christmas beer and Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Ale. I look forward to drinking beers in cozy pubs. I look forward to warm mulled cider and even a tiny bit of eggnog, spiked of course. Holiday beverages are one of my favorite things about the holiday.

I always look forward to the end of the year. This time of year is my favorite, and I feel a sense of warmth and happiness as the year draws to a close.

Mmm… Christmas beer… Sierra Nevada has a tasting room in Berkeley where I had some celebration beer a couple weeks ago. Probably going to stop by their brewpub in Chico later this month. Yummy stuff.

    1. Their tasting rooms must be awesome! Yum. Their pale ale is one of my favorites as well.

  2. I love it :) I’ve been trying to get back into blogging as well. I made an attempt last year around this time, but would be good to try again.

This is my favorite time of year too. I’m not big on traditions, but I love the spirit of the season, decorating the tree and the ornaments handed down to me through a few generations. I love the quiet nights with just christmas music and the glow of the tree.

Looking forward to your coming posts.

    1. I totally didn’t know you had a blog. Added it to my sidebar and RSS feed :)

  3. I love my Balsam Fir candles too!
