Friday Forum – music

I forgot to say something about this last week, but Lisanne, one of my hostees, decided to start up a Friday meme of her own after the demise of the Friday Five. She’s titled it The Friday Forum, and so far she’s been asking very interesting and thought-provoking questions. She just began this meme last week so it’s still a baby, so if you miss the Friday Five and want other questions to answer, feel free to send an email to this address. The questions will be mailed to you on Thursday, and you just put your answers either in your weblog or as a comment to her entry! I didn’t answer last week’s because I’m not big on movies, but I knew I’d be able to answer this weeks with a theme of music. Here are my answers for this week!

  1. You’re making a CD mix titled, “The Soundtrack of My Life.” Which songs would you include, and why? Surprisingly enough, I had no trouble thinking up this list. All are songs that have meant something to me since I started really listening to music about 10 years ago, and I’m happy to have so many songs that remind me of times of my life.
    1. Blur – Star Shaped
    2. BRMC – Love Burns
    3. Smashing Pumpkins – Stand Inside Your Love
    4. Green Day – When I Come Around
    5. REM – The Lifting
    6. The Beatles – Rain
    7. Radiohead – Sulk
    8. Zwan – Of A Broken Heart
    9. Dandy Warhols – Boys Better
    10. Smashing Pumpkins – Crestfallen
    11. Guided By Voices – Twilight Campfighter
    12. Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence
    13. Blur – Resigned
    14. New Order – Run Wild
    15. The Hollies – Carrie-Anne
    16. Hanson – A Minute Without You(don’t ask!)
    17. The Rolling Stones – 19th Nervous Breakdown
    18. The Strokes – Hard to Explain
    19. Foo Fighters – I’ll Stick Around
    20. Oasis – Wonderwall
    21. Sun Kil Moon – Carry Me Ohio
  2. What is your favorite song right now? I’ve been listening to a lot of Guided By Voices recently, but I don’t have one favorite song in particular. Music just isn’t interesting to me right now, and I’m hoping that things will improve soon.
  3. You’re feeling down, sad, lonely, frustrated, angry … which song[s] do you play to help yourself feel better? I listen to Is This It? by The Strokes when I’m feeling down, and it always makes me feel better. The first Dandy Warhols album cheers me up too, oddly enough.
  4. Do you watch the TV show “American Idol”? Why/why not? Nope. Never have, never will, because the show doesn’t interest me at all. I really could care less about who wins, and I won’t be sad to see it end.
  5. Do most of your friends generally share your taste in music? With the exception of Scott, not at all. I’ve rarely ever met anyone with the same musical taste as me, which made me sad in high school. Thankfully I have a few net friends with similar tastes in music, so I have some people to talk to about music!
