Ginkgo leaves and knitting.

I haven’t really been posting much about my knitting these days. Suffice it to say, I’m still making things.

Ginkgo shawl progress

I’m making the Ginkgo shawl for Ted’s mother for Christmas. I’m fairly certain she does not read my blog, as she doesn’t really frequent the internets, so I’m safe to post it here. (If not, hi Ted’s mom! Hope you like the gift I’m knitting for you!)

I found this pattern through my friend Kelly, who emailed myself and another knitting friend a question about the chart. I believe I forgot her question when I set eyes on the shawl! I knew I needed to knit it, but I’m still having a hard time rocking the shawl look. I need to learn how to artfully drape a knit shawl around my neck so I can wear them that way. Hopefully I can learn this art sometime soon. For now, I’ll knit shawls for other people, mainly those I like a whole lot.

Ginkgo shawl progress

So far, this pattern’s been a breeze. It looks pretty boring right now, but I’m fine with boring knitting if I can get this thing done before Christmas! I’ve been knitting on it here and there, whenever I have a spare minute or two, and I’m making decent progress. I can’t wait until I get to the end.

I’m so excited that you knit too!

    1. I’ve been knitting for 9 years! I LOVE knitting but I haven’t written about it much on my blog over the years. I need to change this. I really want to start documenting the crafty things I do better.

      1. I’ve been knitting off and on over a course of a lifetime, I’ve only recently decided that I must learn to do more than make scarves and baby blankets, lol. My Christmas projects are all socks! DPN’s are scary, but interesting, and not half as hard to get the hang of as they seem. That shawl is GORGEOUS by the way, but the lacy bottom looks oh so intimidating.

        1. Thanks! If you can knit socks, you can totally knit lace. Seriously!

  2. I’m trying to make a shawl as well (different style) for my younger sister.. I started the project about three years ago and have since brought it from Ireland to the US… and I’m determined to finish it before christmas! ;)  Would you be able to send me a copy of the pattern for the ginko shawl? :)

    1. Sure! Here’s the link to it: http://www.southernselkie.com/blog/2011/01/ginkgo-shoulderette-shawl-free-knitting-pattern/

      Enjoy! :)

      1. That’s a beautiful shawl! Thank you – and I may have to ask you for help since I’ve always played it safe before now!

        1. You are welcome! Let me know if you have any questions!
