Halloween and Nanowrimo

I think I’m strange. I haven’t done anything for Halloween besides pass out candy to trick or treaters (if any even come!) for the past few years, and in all honesty, it’s not that big of a deal to me. Sure, I’ll go to a Halloween party (if anyone would ever throw one!) and I love candy, of course, but the holiday’s never been much for me since sometime in college.

I loved Halloween as a kid; we’d go to my cousin’s house the next town over and trick or treat at the subdivisions nearby. Tons of houses, tons of people who love kids; lots and lots of loot! Our parents would be in the car driving down the street with us, which never bothered us very much at all. Hey, it’s still candy!

These days, Halloween is the day before NaNoWriMo to me! I’m doing something different for my novel this year and writing a cheesy romance starring people I know in real life. My cousin and I used to write cheesy novels based on our places of employment back when she’d spend a month with us in Massachusetts when I was in high school, and we always had a good time reading each others’ works of art. I don’t really think I’m cut out to be a real writer, so I might as well write 50,000 words of something I’ll read again and again and laugh. Plus, romance novels are easy to write, as soon as I think up a cast (which I’ll be doing tonight). I’m looking forward to this year, actually; I met so many good friends through my local writing group last year that I’m excited to see what this year brings us all.

Anyway. It’s Halloween and we’ve had a grand total of 3 trick or treaters all night. South Bend enacted some trick or treating times between the hours of 5 and 7; I never trick or treated until after 7 as a kid, but what do I know?

This is what happens when I’m tired. Happy Halloween everyone!
