I love Christmas socks!
So many of these questions feel like repeats of each other! I’m certain I answered a prompt about Christmas traditions the first week, but I’ll focus this post on a new tradition I started last year, a tradition involving Christmas socks!
If you celebrate Christmas this week, tell us about your Christmas traditions. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, what do you like to do when everything is closed?
I started a new tradition last year that I’ll want to continue for years to come – I knit myself a pair of Christmas socks to wear on Christmas Day! My friend Kate over at the Stitch Addiction podcast has been doing this for a few years as well, so I must have gotten the idea from her. I didn’t even know holiday themed sock yarn existed before 2014, so I’m glad to have picked up on this trend!
Last year, I knit a pair of socks using Stray Cat Socks yarn in the Joyeux Noel colorway. I knit them using my old standard 2.5mm (US 1.5) knitting needles, which made the fabric a bit too loose for my liking. I now knit my socks using 2.0mm (US 0) needles, and I love the fabric it makes so much more.
This year, I’m knitting my socks out of Simply Socks Yarn Company’s Poste Yarn in the Jollyville colorway. I love the colors so much and I can’t wait to wear them! I’m almost to the cuff of the second sock, so I’ll almost certainly get these done for the holidays.
Of course I already have next year’s Christmas yarn! I bought a skein of the gorgeous Festive Conifer colorway from Lamby Toes, and I’m excited to knit it next year. I also have another skein of Stray Cat Sock yarn in the Wonderland colorway that I’ll use for socks at some point, so I’m good to go for a couple years.
Christmas socks make me so happy.
