ICQ vs Trillian

I’m debating whether or not I should switch from using Trillian to ICQ Lite for my messaging needs. I’m playing with ICQ Lite right now, and it looks and feels much better than any other version of ICQ I’ve used since 99b, my all time favorite version. (Of course, I did have all the ads removed from it, which may be why it’s so quick!) I’ve been debating going this route for awhile, and I’m liking what I’m seeing so far with ICQ Lite.

I feel terrible abandoning Trillian, however. I’ve been using that program for over two years now, and I’ve never had a complaint about it. That is, until they stopped updating the basic version and pushed their ‘Trillian Pro’ product instead. I really don’t want to spend the 25 bucks needed to buy the newest version of Trillian; it would be different if the customer had to only pay the 25 dollars once and they could get upgrades forever, but no. Every year, you have to buy again. That irks me to no end, and as much as I love Trillian, I will probably never pay for it. I don’t like using a program with no big updates for the past few years; I’d much rather use something that’s constantly evolving and trying to make itself better.

I’m hoping that eventually, Trillian will put out a new basic release. I’ve been hoping that for the past year and a half, however, and nothing has happened. I’ll play with ICQ for now, and if I get sick of it, I’ll go back to Trillian.

Yes, that means I will be using ICQ once again almost exclusively. I can add IM names to it, but if you use Trillian Basic, you’ll never appear as online to me. (I’ll see your ICQ name fine if you use Trillian, however.) If you don’t already have my ICQ#, let me know and I’ll hook you up.
