I’ve been holding off on posting about a really, really huge change in my life that will be occurring in, oh, a month or so. I’m not new to big life changes, but this one? This one is big.
We are moving to Portland, Oregon in July!
Ted accepted a job with a software development company right in the city, so we’re packing up, arranging all the things that need arranging, and we’ll be driving across the country to start a new adventure! I’m excited, of course, and a little terrified in a good way, just because 3000 miles is a long way away!
I’m excited to live in a new place! I look forward to new beers, lots of vegan and vegetarian food, new yarn stores and running groups, and perhaps buying a bike and using it as a mode of transportation! We signed a lease on an apartment right in the city, so we’ll be able to walk and take the public transit. I’m selling my car, we’re hunting for movers, and we’re trying to figure out the best way to transport 3 cats across the country. (Pet movers? Yes. 3 cats in a Prius for a week? No.)
Of course, moving 3000 miles away from the place I’ve lived the longest, away from my friends and family, is scary. I mean, I did it once before, when I moved about 1000 miles away to live in Indiana for 8 years, but 3000 is a whole other story. Will I make new friends? Will I like it out there? Will it be very different? There’s a lot of unknowns, but if I’ve survived it once, I can survive it again.
I’m hoping to document my move in here, in my paper journal, and in pictures, of course. I’m excited to drive across the country and see places I’ve never seen. I’m excited, I’m nervous, but I’m looking forward to this change.
