New adventures.

I’ve been holding off on posting about a really, really huge change in my life that will be occurring in, oh, a month or so. I’m not new to big life changes, but this one? This one is big.

We are moving to Portland, Oregon in July!

Ted accepted a job with a software development company right in the city, so we’re packing up, arranging all the things that need arranging, and we’ll be driving across the country to start a new adventure! I’m excited, of course, and a little terrified in a good way, just because 3000 miles is a long way away!

I’m excited to live in a new place! I look forward to new beers, lots of vegan and vegetarian food, new yarn stores and running groups, and perhaps buying a bike and using it as a mode of transportation! We signed a lease on an apartment right in the city, so we’ll be able to walk and take the public transit. I’m selling my car, we’re hunting for movers, and we’re trying to figure out the best way to transport 3 cats across the country. (Pet movers? Yes. 3 cats in a Prius for a week? No.)

Of course, moving 3000 miles away from the place I’ve lived the longest, away from my friends and family, is scary. I mean, I did it once before, when I moved about 1000 miles away to live in Indiana for 8 years, but 3000 is a whole other story. Will I make new friends? Will I like it out there? Will it be very different? There’s a lot of unknowns, but if I’ve survived it once, I can survive it again.

I’m hoping to document my move in here, in my paper journal, and in pictures, of course. I’m excited to drive across the country and see places I’ve never seen. I’m excited, I’m nervous, but I’m looking forward to this change.

That’s so exciting! I hope Portland turns out to everything you wish it to be. Congrats! :)

    1. Thanks! We are so excited to live in a new place!

  2. Yay, Aubrey! I’m sure you and Ted will LOVE Portland and make tons of cool friends. Also, we can all visit you and eat maple bacon donuts—I’m sure they make a vegan version… Hooray for new adventures!

    1. As I said yesterday, you are definitely welcome to visit anytime! And I sure hope there are vegan maple bacon donuts! Either way, I’m excited to go to Voodoo for the first time :)

  3. Congrats! Welcome to Oregon. You’re moving at a good time. You can enjoy the summer before the rain comes. :)

    1. Thank you! I can’t wait to explore everything Oregon has to offer. I’m no stranger to moving to a completely different area, so I’m looking forward to it!

(For some reason, comment notifications aren’t working on my site right now, so I just noticed your comment! Sorry for the late response!)

  4. I am really jealous, actually!! I LOVE Portland. well the whole PNW basically. but I really, really fell in love with Oregon. it’s GORGEOUS there. lots of neat places to see… and you are close to the ocean, desert, mountains, rain forests… aaah. I think you will like it. especially if you go there with an adventurous mindset :)

    1. Yeah, I want wait to see it! I’ve actually never been to the PNW at all, but I hadn’t ever been to Portsmouth before I moved here, so I’m used to it!
