New years reset.
Another short one today. I love thinking about the new year and self-improvement.
Why do you think we have the tradition of trying to change ourselves at the start of the year?
I think most people like the idea of a clean slate, a fresh start, a new beginning. I know I do. I might not love that my birthday’s on Christmas all the time, but I do love that it’s so close to the end of the year. I love using my birthday and Christmas and the new year to reflect on the past year, to think about the good times and to think about what can be changed. I find so much peace around the holidays, looking at Christmas lights and drinking warm winter beverages and listening to quiet music as night falls upon me.
I always like the idea of new beginnings. I’ve moved every 4-5 years as an adult, and I’ve started over pretty much from scratch every time I’ve done so. Sometimes I hate that I haven’t lived anywhere consistently, but other times I’m happy for the adventures I’ve experienced. When I think of my life as an adventure, I don’t feel so bad.
I am a work in progress. We are all works in progress. I love new beginnings.
