Interesting. I haven’t accessed star shaped by typing in www.star-shaped.org in a long time, and I wondered why people still did this. Unfortunately, some of the sites on IU’s homepage can only be accessed via ‘www’ – even sites which are subdomains. (Example – IU’s computer science department’s website is www.cs.indiana.edu and not just cs.indiana.edu – the latter gives a 404. Why? Who knows?) My domain classified as a ‘class A’ domain at first – both www.star-shaped.org and star-shaped.org are acceptable. The optimal classification for domains happens to be class ‘B’ (’www.domain’ forwards to ‘domain’), and the No-www FAQ gives you a little bit of .htaccess code to insert into your site to achieve this classification. Nifty.
